Key events that could impact exchange rates this week

Monthly Currency Information

Sterling received a boost towards the end of last week following hawkish comments made in the minutes of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting on Thursday. It has been suggested that further interest rate hikes will be required earlier than expected which has lead the Pound to rocket against all of the major currencies. However this was short lived tailing off towards the end of the week, demonstrating the volatility in the markets.

We have a host of UK data on Tuesday with Retail and CPI releases, followed by German GDP and a speech from the German Buba President Jens Weidmann on Wednesday. Towards the end of the week we have multiple US data releases including Building Permits and the Baker Hughes Oil Rig count on Friday.
