Pound to Euro Outlook: GBPEUR Rates Reach 4-Week Interbank Highs

Will GBP/CAD continue to fall to new lows? (Joseph Wright)

Today is an important day on the financial calendar for Sterling exchange rates and I'm expecting some sharp movements in the GBP/CAD exchange rate around lunchtime, as this is when the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee will be announcing their most recent Interest Rate decision. GBP/CAD is currently trading just above an almost 3 year low as the Pound has been under continued pressure since the shock 'Brexit' decision was announced, and I think that if there is a rate cut, particularly a larger...

Pound falls against the Canadian Dollar owing to US Jobs Report (Tom Holian)

The Canadian Dollar rate vs the Pound has strengthened towards the end of the week after the US economy posted better than expected jobs data for July. A total of 209,000 new jobs were created last month and the unemployment rate also hit the lowest number since 2001. Both the US Dollar as well as the Canadian Dollar have gained towards the end of the week owing to the news. After having a slow start to the week the Canadian Dollar has ended the week on...
Oil Prices and Brexit Casuing Volatility for Pound to Canadian Dollar Exchange Rates

GBP/CAD Rates almost hit 1.94! (Joshua Privett)

Yesterday was an extraordinary day for Sterling. Most analysts were expecting the FED interest rate decision to govern Canadian Dollar rates. As the US is Canada's largest trading partner, any important economic information released from there has an indirect effect on Canadian Dollar value. But rather than poor US data weakening the CAD, it was strong UK data which increased the value of the Pound across the board against all major currencies. The dark horse data release that no analysts had even hinted at, was...

Quiet week for Data

This week the only significant release of data to give us a glimpse into the Canadian Economy will be on Friday, where GDP figures for June will be revealed. Until then GBP/CAD, EUR/CAD and other CAD pairings will be governed by events outside of the country. Following surprisingly goodretail sales figures for the Canadian economy last week, growing twice as fast as analysts had expected, GBP/CAD rates shot down to 2.01 and have since settle just above 2.02. This was also helped by the opposite...
Gbp to Cad Exchange Rate Hits a 1-Month High as Risk Appetite Returns to Global Markets

CAD under further pressure from China

The CAD, as a commodity currency, has come under pressure for the second day in a row from repeated devaluations of the Chinese Yuan. Whilst Canada is not a major trade partner of China, as China itself is such a commodity hungry market, the news has revised down global growth and demand. The indirect fall in commodity prices is what has hurt the Canadian dollar, but only marginally. CAD weakness seems saturated - the article inside explains why and what to expect from CAD rates in the future.
Pound to Canadian Dollar outlook Will Sterling struggle against the Canadian Dollar?

Canadian Dollar still very volatile

The Canadian Dollar's value is still shifting parallel to a rollercoaster-like oil market. Last week Oil prices rose by 10% in total, this was matched by a 4% decline overnight on Monday heading into Tuesday. The Canadian Dollar fell away slightly from recent gains as a result. The reason for the decline was a reduction in Chinese imports by 20% last month alone, which caused many to question whether forecasts for future oil demand would overstated, causing oil prices to fall again. The general trend, however,...

What will Affect GBP/CAD this Week? (Daniel Johnson)

CAD gained some strength last week after an increase in oil price. This was halted however when news that the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting  Countries (OPEC) had failed to reach an agreement on a price freeze. CAD has fallen in value as a result. Moving forward the Bank of Canada's (BOC) Head, Governor Poloz is set to speak tomorrow. He will be discussing economic climate and future monetary policy which can cause swings. I expect a dovish tone from Poloz due to current market conditions...
Pound to Euro Exchange Rate Outlook: Busy Week Ahead for GBP to EUR Rates

CAD continuing to strengthen

It seems that CAD rates are continuing to move higher following recent losses. Even news that oil prices had dropped following poor Chinese data wasn't enough to stop GBP/CAD from falling back into 2.01 for the first time since July. Previously the Canadian Dollar had been weakening with news coming out of China about a severe slow-down in their manufacturing sector last month - growing at the slowest recorded pace in the last three years. This caused further falls in oil prices as demand for the...
Pound to Canadian Dollar Outlook: BoC Interest Rate Cut Bets Soar as Oil Prices Sink CAD

Will GBPCAD fall below 1.60 or rise above 1.70 first?

Well this currency pairing is looking more and more unpredictable as we go on, only a few weeks ago when the Bank of Canada raised interest rates it looked like the CAD would continue to rise but since then a change in both the outlook on interest rates for the United States and also the UK has seen some volatility on the currency pair. All in all I would expect there is now more chance GBPCAD slips below 1.60 than rises above 1.70, this...

GBP/CAD – Political uncertainty plagues the Pound (Daniel Johnson)

UK politics dictating GBP/CAD The snap election was deemed to be a smart move by Theresa May, unfortunately her cunning ruse did not go to plan. With the opposition so weak it seemed as though the election would be a foregone conclusion. However, with May attacking her core voters by stating those of a specific age would have to pay for their own care we saw many switch their allegiance. This was also combined with a very successful Labor campaign, particularly through social media. With the...
